Coaching Scripts

The Coaching Scripts – Practitioner Guide is a structured dialogue resource designed to support early-stage readiness conversations with participants who are questioning the long-term sustainability of public benefits. Rooted in trauma-informed and strengths-based principles, this guide is not about pushing change or emphasizing work requirements—it is about exploring possibilities, perspectives, and personal agency in a safe, neutral, and client-led way. Organized into seven conversational sections—including Opening Exploration, Understanding the Current Picture, Possibility Thinking, Exploring Fears & Barriers, Values & Motivation, Readiness Check, and Closing—the tool helps practitioners pace conversations thoughtfully while normalizing fear, highlighting strengths, and protecting emotional safety.

How to Use This Tool: Select one or two sections per conversation rather than moving through all seven at once. Use open-ended questions to invite reflection, allow for silence, and follow the participant’s cues. Stay neutral and curious, affirm strengths and insights, and avoid framing the discussion around abrupt change or compliance. As readiness builds, gently explore values, motivation, and one small, client-selected next step. Close each conversation by reinforcing clarity, choice, and forward momentum. This guide is designed to support thoughtful, participant-centered exploration over time—not one-time decision-making.
