The Economic Mobility Readiness Survey is a coaching tool designed to help practitioners better understand a participant’s current readiness for economic mobility by exploring two important dimensions: Mindset and Context. Mindset reflects how a participant views change, opportunity, public benefits, and their ability to navigate future possibilities, while Context examines the realities of their current circumstances, stability, support systems, and available resources. Together, these perspectives provide a more complete picture of where a participant is today and help practitioners tailor coaching conversations, supports, and planning activities to align with the participant’s unique situation. Because economic mobility often involves navigating a complex combination of opportunities, risks, responsibilities, and support systems, the survey is intended to inform coaching conversations rather than evaluate, judge, or predict a participant’s potential.
How to Use This Tool: Use the Economic Mobility Readiness Survey at intake, during major life transitions, or periodically throughout the coaching relationship to better understand a participant’s current experience and identify changes over time. The survey can help practitioners determine whether coaching conversations should focus primarily on building awareness, exploring possibilities, strengthening confidence, addressing barriers, increasing stability, or supporting advancement planning. Because participants may score differently in Mindset and Context, the results should be viewed as a starting point for conversation rather than a final conclusion. This tool is designed to support participant-centered coaching by helping practitioners meet people where they are, recognize growth over time, and align coaching strategies with each participant’s readiness, goals, and circumstances.
