Visual Data Summary

The Visual Data Summary is a coaching tool designed to help participants clearly understand how wages, public benefits, and total household resources work together when exploring employment, education, training, or career advancement opportunities. Using information gathered from the CLIFF Snapshot or other benefit and income calculators, the tool provides a simple side-by-side comparison of a participant’s current situation and one or more projected future scenarios. By focusing on total available resources rather than wages alone, the Visual Data Summary helps participants see how changes in income may affect benefits, identify potential benefit cliffs, and better understand the financial tradeoffs associated with different opportunities. The visual format makes complex information easier to understand and supports more informed, participant-centered decision-making.

How to Use This Tool: Use the Visual Data Summary after completing a CLIFF Snapshot or other benefits and income calculation tool. Review the current and projected scenarios together, encouraging participants to identify patterns, ask questions, and reflect on what they notice before discussing options or next steps. The tool can be used during coaching sessions, career planning conversations, benefit transition discussions, goal-setting activities, and follow-up appointments to reinforce understanding, track progress over time, and support long-term economic mobility planning. Because the Visual Data Summary presents information in a clear and accessible format, it is especially helpful when introducing complex financial concepts, discussing potential benefit cliffs, or helping participants prepare for future changes in income, employment, education, or public assistance.
